Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI)

In the field of inland fisheries research and training, the Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), is premier and oldest one. During the time of its inception, this institute was known as the Central Inland Fisheries Research Station. In 1959, this research organization attained status of an Institute and shifted to Barrackpore from Kolkata. Main objectives of the Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) includes, conducting investigation to appraise inland fishery resources in the country, evolve proper methodology for conservation and best utilization of fishery resources. Other major objectives of this institute include, fish see transportation, prospecting fish seed from rivers, breeding and nursery management of carps and various other aspects related to fishery resources.
